Other Opportunities

How long will it take for me to achieve fluency in Spanish?

Fluency depends on your level, study habits, and practice. We define fluency as reaching B2, where you can confidently handle everyday conversations.

To be more direct the main quesiton we consistently receive from students is, “How many hours of Spanish classes do I need to take to achieve a fluent level of Spanish?”

As we would love to give an exact number to help you understand all that it will take for you to achieve your Spanish fluency goals, but to start with the the short answer: it depends (we know that is not the answer you want to hear) on several factors, including:

  • Your current Spanish level
  • The type of study methods you use
  • How much time you have to practice Spanish in daily life (repetetive practice)
  • How you define fluency

At our school, we define fluency as reaching at least a B2 (Intermediate High -Advanced Low) level of proficiency. While there are higher levels beyond B2 (C1 and C2), we believe that B2 is a strong, practical level where you can comfortably hold conversations on most everyday topics, with room for continued growth and refinement.

So, How Long Does It Take?

Based on our experience and methodology:

  • From absolute beginner to B1 (Conversational Level):
→ Approximately 250 to 350 hours of study and practice.
  • From B1 to B2 (Advanced Low Fluency):
    → Approximately 200 additional hours.

That’s a total of around 450 to 550 hours to reach a B2 level. However, we do not recommend taking only 1-on-1 classes to reach this goal. In fact, we strongly encourage a mix of structured classes, self-study, and real-life Spanish exposure.

Our Approach to Achieving Fluency

We’ve designed a comprehensive learning path that works:

  • Speaking-Focused Classes: In every lesson, our students speak 80-90% of the time. Even beginners are immersed in Spanish from day one, creating consistent exposure and steady progress.
  • Progressive Curriculum: We’ve developed over 300 lessons (A0 to C1) to ensure students are always challenged and steadily improving.
  • Real-Life Practice: As students move to intermediate and advanced levels, we incorporate role-plays based on their specific goals—whether for work, travel, or social situations.
  • Cultural Experiences: We complement classes with local cultural activities and language exchanges to provide more opportunities for spontaneous speaking practice.
  • Accountability:
    • Students can book a free 30-minute help session for every 10 hours of classes they are registered for.
    • Every 40 hours, we provide a computer-adaptive proficiency tests via Avant Assements to track progress in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
  • Immersion at Home: During our Welcome Orientation, we also teach students how to create their own immersion experiences at home, helping accelerate their pronunciation, speaking, listening, and reading skills.

The Key to Progress: Repetition + Real Use

We emphasize that fluency isn’t achieved only through class time, but it’s about consistent exposure and using Spanish in diverse, real-life situations. Repetition is essential. The more you practice both in and out of class, the faster you’ll improve.🙌📈

Our goal is to help every student confidently reach at least a B1 (Conversational Level) and then a B2 (Advanced Low Fluency Level) or even C1 (Advanced-High to Superior Level), with a clear path to even higher proficiency if they wish.
