Who will be my teacher and how will I schedule my classes?

  • The student or their parents will need to purchase a package of hours. Once they have registered for a package of hours, the student will be assigned to a teacher (or multiple depending on the intensity of their package) from our team, whose profiles and availability coincide with their learning needs & goals (which we will have evaluated during the Welcome Orientation). They will have access to their calendars and will always be able to schedule classes using our platform, at least 24 hours in advance.
  • If you decide to have a class with more than one teacher, don’t worry: your teachers will have access to all of your academic information, including a detailed record of what you have done class by class, which allows us to guarantee pedagogical continuity during your classes.
  • Additionally, your teacher will always follow the Personal Lesson Plan (PLP) that will have been created by our Instructional Design team, especially for you, at the beginning of the course, based on your specific needs and goals.

How will the student be able to communicate with their teacher if there is a technical difficulty or if we need to cancel last minute?

We encourage all of our students or their parents to download Whatsapp, which is a great free resource to have immediate communication with your teacher just in case there are any technical difficulties.

What happens if my schedule changes on a weekly basis?

  • If you know your availability for the next week, we ask that you coordinate with your teacher at the end of the class to schedule your new time (EST) and day for your class(es) the upcoming week
  • Just communicate with your teacher to let them know 24 hours before your next lesson via email or WhatsApp if you have to cancel.
  • We might have multiple teachers assigned to your account to be able to accommodate your new schedule.

I’ve already studied/have previous knowledge of Spanish. How will you evaluate my current level?

We use the Welcome Orientation to determine you or child’s level. During the trial, we’ll also discuss specific learning goals in order to customize language classes to address the students’ needs. And if the student has never studied Spanish before, don’t worry!
We’ll start their Spanish classes at the beginning of Level AO/A1.

I’ve already decided I’m going to study with Atlanta Spanish Immersion, do I have to take the Welcome Orientation still?

Yes. Although our videoconferencing technology has minimal computer and speed connection requirements, we use the Welcome Orientation to ensure everything works properly to guarantee hassle-free classes. Also, if you’ve studied Spanish in the past, we use the class WO to determine the student’s current proficiency level and language needs to customize a curriculum to fit their needs.

If my teacher is a native speaker and I’m a beginner student… How are we going to communicate?

All of our teachers speak conversational English from a B1 (Intermediate Mid) to C2 (Mastery/Distinguished) level

How many classes/tutoring sessions do you recommend students participating in traditional group classes at their main school to take on a monthly basis?

We recommend at least 4 lessons per month for students participating in group lessons. This ensures consistent practice and steady progress.
If your goal is to advance more quickly, additional lessons can be added as needed.

How many hours does my child need to take in order to get High School Credit?

  • The number of hours required for High School Credit depends on the specific guidelines of your child’s school or district. However, as a general rule, schools often require 120-150 hours of language study to award one year of credit. We can work with you to tailor a plan that meets these requirements.
  • We can also help your student(s) study for National and International Exams (ACTFL or DELE) to receive an official level of their proficiency

Can one of my children take a 30-minute lesson and the other take a 1-hour lesson?

Yes, we can accommodate different lesson lengths for your children. You can purchase a package and split the time as needed, such as scheduling a 30-minute lesson for one child and a 1-hour lesson for another. Contact us to customize the arrangement based on your family’s needs.

Could you share more about the Local Language & Cultural Events?

Local students will receive notifications regarding local language exchanges and Cultural Activities around the metro-Atlanta area to meet local native Spanish speakers where you will be able to practice conversational Spanish or learn about a topic in Spanish.

Could you share more about the Digital Community?

  • The digital community is via the platform Circle. Once a student registers for a package of hours, they will receive a special link to join the Atlanta Spanish Immersion Digital Community.
  • Stay Connected: Ask specific questions and engage with our team and other students outside of your Spanish classes.
  • Exclusive Resources: Access additional learning materials, tips, and resources to boost your Spanish skills.
  • Completely Free: Enjoy all the benefits of our community platform at no extra cost.

What does the Proficiency test entail?

  • For every student that is registered for at least 40 hours of lessons, we will provide them with a proficiency test that will indicate their official level according to ACTFL(American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) at the beginning of when they start a program.
  • This is one of the ways we ensure that you are able to be successful in your Spanish language learning journey by measuring your proficiency level from a 3rd party testing agency (Avant Assessments).
  • The test is computer adaptive where the difficulty will adjust depending on how you score.
We like to test students every 40 hours of classes completed.
  • Example of milestones: 0,40, 80, 120, 160 hours, etc.

What is the Deductive Method?

This method is often familiar to adult learners in the U.S. because it mirrors traditional classroom learning styles.
It works well with students who like clear explanations and want to understand the structure of the language from the outset. It can be efficient, but it might not be as engaging or intuitive for all learners.

What is the Inductive Method?

The inductive method, in contrast, is more of a learner-centered approach. Students are presented with examples or situations where the target language is used, and they are encouraged to figure out the rules on their own. The teacher guides students through discovering patterns or rules from real-life use rather than explicitly teaching them upfront.
